The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko called the former GRU Colonel Sergei Skripal “downed pilot”, to pursue which Russia makes no sense. Her words on Tuesday, March 13, RIA Novosti reported.

“I want to ask the question — why does Russia need this (poisoning Skripal — approx. “Of the”)? We are talking about a man who no one is is, as they say — “downed pilot”, an elderly man, from whom everything is, what could have been, squeezed by the UK intelligence services”, — said Matvienko.

The Federation Council speaker stressed that the UK should “thoroughly, carefully and painstakingly” to investigate this crime and other “strange death” of Russian citizens that occurred in this country. “And to speak the language of ultimatum, what is happening now, is also impossible,” she concluded.

Earlier it became known that the British Ambassador in Russia Laurie Bristow was summoned to the Russian foreign Ministry. At the same time, Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow has requested access to the case materials, Sergey Skripal and his daughter Julia. The Minister pointed out that London had to turn to Russia for clarification, “before you put ultimatums”.

Skripal and his daughter Julia was found unconscious on a bench in the Park in Salisbury on the evening of 4 March. They were hospitalized, currently they are in a coma. Just poisoning suffered 21 persons. British Prime Minister Theresa may said that Skripal and his daughter was poisoned with a substance “Beginner”, allegedly developed in the Soviet Union.
