The researchers IOActive found that robot Pepper exposed to serious hacker attacks. It is reported by the Motherboard.

Experts in the field of information security Lucas APA (Lucas Apa) and Caesar Cerrudo (Cesar Cerrudo) created a tool that can be used to hack robots company SoftBank Robotics. If such will be in the hands of criminals, they will be able not only to remotely disable a robotic salesperson, but also display on its screen any obscene images, including pornography, and to demand a ransom in bitcoins.

Unlike traditional ransomware, which threaten the customers data encryption on their devices, tool APA and Serrudo can give hackers complete control over the robot. Therefore, the owners of Pepper will have to make a decision: pay the ransom or return to the seller manufacturers. According to the researchers, the robot’s return could take weeks: all this time the owners will lose money. At the same time to reset the device to factory settings is very difficult. This means that the extortionists can demand a higher ransom than conventional hacker attacks.

Reporters noted that the developers have sold more than 10 thousand robots Pepper around the world. Some of them are already working in major us networks Sprint and Pizza Hut. The cost of the robot is about nine thousand dollars.

In January 2018, the leadership of the Scottish supermarket chain Margiotta Food & Wine took the decision to dismiss robot Pepper by the name of Fabio. He could not perform his duty, and bad jokes.
