Ukrainian athletes boycotted the world Cup in Tyumen

Ukrainian athletes will not take part in the ninth stage of the biathlon world Cup, which will be held in Tyumen. About this on his page in Facebook wrote the head of the Ministry of youth and sports of Ukraine Igor Zhdanov.

The official said about the meeting with the head of the biathlon Federation of Ukraine (FBU) Vladimir Brynzak, with the result that it was decided to boycott the tournament in Russia.

“The state has no right to interfere in the activities of sport federations as a separate non-governmental organizations. But all rules have exceptions,” — said Zhdanov.

Earlier, on 13 March, the Minister urged the Ukrainian athletes not to go to Russia. However, in his statement, Zhdanov noted that we are talking about his own opinion as a citizen to participate in sports competitions on the territory of the “aggressor”.

In February, the head of the FBU project Manager brynzak said that, in his opinion, the boycott of the tournament impractical from a sporting point of view. However, the final decision he left for the officials.

The first of the boycott announced by the American biathletes in protest against the decision of the International biathlon Federation (IBU) to save for Russia the right to host the world Cup and IBU Cup. Later they were supported by athletes from the Czech Republic.

The ninth stage of the biathlon world Cup will be held from 22 to 25 March in Tyumen.
