Japan started preparing for the executions of members of the religious sect AUM Shinrikyo committed a terrorist act in the Tokyo subway in 1995. On Wednesday, March 14, Kyodo reported.
According to the Agency, the Ministry of justice began translation of 7 of the 13 sentenced to death from Tokyo to other prisons. It is considered a preparation for the real executions, the Ministry is considering possible dates for execution of punishment, the report indicates. At the same time, the sect leader Shoko Asahara (real name — Chizuo Matsumoto) remains in the capital’s prison.
In January, the Supreme court of Japan dismissed the appeal on the verdict against the former member of AUM Shinrikyo, Kazue Takahashi, put a point in legal proceedings on the case of terrorist attack. Man sentenced to life in prison in 2015. He was hiding for 17 years and was arrested in 2012, the last of all the suspects in the terrorist attack.
Execution in Japan is by hanging. Suicide bombers usually are waiting for it for several years, the decision on execution is taken only when the trial is completely over.
The attack in the Tokyo subway was made on 20 March 1995. Then the members of the “AUM Shinrikyo” sprayed on the subway, the toxic gas sarin. Killing 13 people, and about 5 thousand passengers affected. In General, for different attacks was sentenced almost 200 members of the sect.
“AUM Shinrikyo” appeared in Japan in the late 1980-ies. Based on the ideology of the sect is the mixture of Hinduism, Buddhism and other religions, and its members preached the imminent end of the world. The organization is banned in Russia.
