Slovakia is ready to replace the England team, if she is boycotting the world Cup in Russia. This was stated by Slovakian defender Jan Durica, quoted by “Sport-Express”.
“Slovakia is ready to replace England? Yes. Why not? If the chance presented itself, I think, not only we, but every other team will answer in the affirmative to this question. No one would even pondered. Remember the story with Denmark, which replaced Yugoslavia in the European championship-92 and by the way, won the tournament,” said Durica.
On 6 March, the Minister of foreign Affairs of great Britain, Boris Johnson said that officials and bureaucrats to boycott the world Cup in Russia if it is proved that Russian authorities were implicated in the poisoning of the spy Sergei Skripal, who was in the hospital March 4 after contact with an unknown substance. In this speech about the failure of national team players from participating in the tournament did not go.
As noted by the newspaper The Telegraph, the teams representing national associations must play in all matches of the world Cup until you leave the tournament, which is spelled out in the rules of the International football Federation (FIFA). In case of withdrawal of the team from the competition it may face a penalty up to exclusion from the next world Cup.
According to the Times, British authorities are discussing with allies in the US and Europe, a partial boycott of the world Cup which will be held in 11 Russian cities from June 14 to July 15.
Slovakia were in the same qualifying group with the British and took second place. However, the team failed to get into the play-offs, as was the worst of all groups, which became the groups second.
