The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko was appointed commander of the joint forces operation in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Deputy chief of the General staff of the Armed forces of Ukraine (APU), the General-Lieutenant Sergey Nueva. He reported about it in Facebook.

Poroshenko has indicated that he has put in front of Noevym the task to strengthen the APU so that they were not only defensive, but were able to free the “occupied territories” (uncontrolled Kiev part of the Donbass).

The President of Ukraine confirmed that the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) will be formally completed, and in its place will come the so-called operation joint forces. “Now, legally, the ATO is completed. Thanks to the Verkhovna Rada, which supported the most presidential of the law,” he wrote on Twitter.

On completion of the ATO in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions on February 22 announced by the chief of the General staff of Ukraine Viktor Muzhenko. He noted that changing the format of the military operation would “more efficiently and within a legal framework” to use a military APU. The Ukrainian President signed the law on the reintegration of Donbass on 20 February. The document allows the President to declare martial law and to send troops into any territory at any time and indefinitely. Russia officially recognized as a country-occupier of the territories of Luhansk and Donetsk regions. At the stage of consideration of the document in the Verkhovna Rada had rejected the amendment, according to which in the Donetsk and Luhansk self-proclaimed republics would receive the status of terrorist organizations.
