American stealth multipurpose fighter-bombers of the fifth generation Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is currently almost defenseless against anti-aircraft missiles, writes in The National Interest military analyst Michael peck.
The expert believes that one indication of this can be considered as the order announced U.S. Department of defense. The tender involves carrying out research and development works on creation in the framework of the JSF (Joint Strike Fighter) detection systems, anti-aircraft and missile launches.
While the JSF is supposed to replace the American and other Western fighters in the F-35 Lightning II, the application war is also mentioned (in key words) fighter Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor. Peck believes that the detection systems, anti-aircraft and missile launches can be equipped with two aircraft.
In the application US Department of defense notes that at an altitude of about 10 thousand meters American fighters almost unarmed for anti-aircraft missiles. This situation, I believe in the military can be made worse after the improvement of anti-aircraft artillery, in the system which can be integrated railguns and hypersonic weapons.
In April, the head of the missile defense Agency of the Pentagon, Lieutenant General Samuel greaves said that by 2025 the F-35 Lightning II will be able to detect, track and possibly shoot down ballistic missiles. To this end, the aircraft will be equipped with appropriate sensors and new weapons.
F-35 Lightning II is a family of stealth multirole fighter fifth generation, development and production of which since 2001 has been an American company Lockheed Martin. Fighter comes in three versions: A (normal force), B (short takeoff and vertical landing) and C (deck). In the framework of the JSF for the U.S. and allies planned to produce about five thousand F-35 Lightning II. The total value of the jets exceeds $ 400 billion, the infrastructure and service will require from 700 to 1100 billion.
