The United States imposed against Russian state company “Rosoboronexport” a new package of sanctions. The document was published in the Federal register of official documents of the American government.

The decree prohibits almost any cooperation the American side with Rosoboronexport, in particular, the purchase of any of products Corporation’s official structures, the issuance of licenses for the purchase of goods and other possible assistance from the United States.

The only exception is for two programs of cooperation of Moscow and Washington: procurement of equipment within the framework of the international Treaty on open skies and the supply of Russian Mi-17 helicopters for the needs of the military in Afghanistan.

The document was signed is April 30, Deputy Secretary of state for international security and nonproliferation Christopher Ford. The basis for the sanctions is a violation of U.S. law prohibiting the transfer to Iran, North Korea, and Syria of weapons of mass destruction and technology. The validity period is two years, however, the restrictions can be lifted by the Secretary of state before.

Rosoboronexport is under U.S. sanctions in 2015. Then Washington has accused state-owned companies and a number of other companies that they supply to Syria, Iran and CDNR equipment and technology to create weapons of mass destruction. The restrictions were extended in July 2016.

In March 2017, the house of representatives of the United States Congress approved the draft of the Pentagon’s budget for the 2017 fiscal year, which, in particular, provides for a ban on the cooperation of the military Department with Rosoboronexport. The ban should remain in place as long as the Corporation does not refuse to supply weapons to Syria, and the Russian military will not leave the Crimea.
