The President of Armenia Armen Sargsyan told than protests in the country differ from similar events in other States. His speech at the Victory Park in Yerevan Armenian reports Sputnik.
“It was a velvet, non-violent — call it what you want, but I think it is a revolution in Armenian, where no injured people, no violence and sacrifice,” he said. The President added that citizens have to build a country where you will be returned to their countrymen.
Sargsyan promised that the new government will be formed in time. “To work with the new Cabinet we collected in the manner provided by the Constitution and laws,” he said.
The national Assembly of Armenia on 8 may was elected Prime Minister the leader of the opposition party “Civil contract” and the fraction “EFC” (“Exodus”), the organizer of the protests Nikol Pashinian. He was voted 59 deputies, including members of the ruling Republican party of Armenia, against — 42.
Elections of the new head of the government took place against the background of the political crisis in the country. It all started in mid-April from the rally after the appointment of former President Serzh Sargsyan to the post of Prime Minister from the ruling party. Then Pashinyan in the categorical form has demanded to elect the Prime Minister themselves.
