The project of the pipeline “Nord stream-2” is part of the “hybrid aggression” of Russia against Ukraine, but against the whole of Europe. A statement of the President Petro Poroshenko said after talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of France Emmanuel Makron in Aachen, UNIAN reports.
The Ukrainian leader expressed satisfaction with the fact that the EU has expanded support Kiev in the implementation of the project.
“I am very pleased that we now have broad support in the European Union [“Nord stream-2″], and I, as President, and the Ukrainian government … we are doing everything possible in order to convey an objective picture and not allow Russia to use Nord stream as an element of a hybrid of aggression not only against Ukraine, but against the whole of Europe,” said Poroshenko.
The President says the project could lead not only to financial losses for Ukraine, but also carries a geostrategic risk to other countries. “Ukraine’s gas transportation system is also one of the elements of deterrence of aggressors (Russia — approx. “Of the tape.ru”), it is impossible and irresponsible to treat this very important function,” said the head of state.
Merkel in April said that the project “Northern stream-2” is impossible without the preservation of some quantity of transit gas through Ukrainian territory. While in Berlin emphasize that the construction of the new pipeline is an economic project.
Ukraine opposes the implementation of the project of Russian gas pipeline “Nord stream-2”, which should pass under the Baltic sea and connect Russia and Germany. Kiev has repeatedly stated that the project is political. In April 2018, the Ukrainian authorities have threatened sanctions, international companies participating in the project. Russia charges Ukraine in the political nature of the project denies, claiming that pipeline construction is a purely economic question.
