The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine introduced a bill to change the holiday nonworking day — Victory Day — 9 of may 8. The document published on the website of the Ukrainian Parliament.
The author of the document is non-faction MP Andrey Denisenko. “Offers a festive day 9 may Victory Day over Nazism to transfer on may 8 — victory Day over Nazism in Europe and the Day of remembrance and reconciliation” — said in the explanatory note to the bill.
Denisenko believes that 9 may is “geopolitical and ideological coloration which this date is consistently associated with the assertion of Russia as a superpower that defeated fascism”.
Also the author of the bill proposed “to restore historical justice” on the recognition of the role of the UK, USA and other countries of anti-Hitler coalition at the end of the European campaign in World war II.
“I think it’s time to abandon the fictional Stalin artificial date 9 may celebration which turned aggressive Putin regime into a farce of paleobase and the main myth, and ritual unity of the Soviet-Russian world. Your real Ukrainian Victory Day, we will have over rashizm”, — the Deputy wrote in his Facebook.
From 2015 the law of Ukraine “About the condemnation of the Communist and national socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and the prohibition of propaganda of their symbols”. With these then, the Victory Day, celebrated on may 9 is called the Day of victory over Nazism in the Second world war. In fact, this holiday is ignored by the new Ukrainian authorities, the main events fall on may 8. On this day the Republic celebrates the Day of memory and reconciliation in solidarity with the European countries, which, in turn, celebrate the surrender of Nazi Germany. While 8 may is a working day, may 9 — weekend holiday.
