Veterans of the ATO (anti-terrorist operation government forces of Ukraine in the South-East of the country) threatened the Russian diplomats in the headquarters of the United Nations. This was stated by the representative of the foreign Ministry of Russia Maria Zakharova, RIA Novosti reported.
According to her, on 9 may, the delegation of Ukraine held at the UN “event for propaganda and fake news, which was announced as part of the work of the Committee on information”. He was invited and the people who were represented as veterans of the ATO, including snipers. From Russia the meeting was attended by Department of information and press of the foreign Ministry, who took part in the work of the Committee of the UN General Assembly on information.
Zakharov said that after the event in the lobby of the headquarters of the invited men in camouflage uniforms went to the Russian representative and began to threaten with physical violence. “The UN ran the men in uniform, screamed, photographed Russian diplomats and threatened. It was about direct threats,” she said.
Of the incident foreign Ministry spokesman interpreted as a continuation of the policy of Kiev to intimidate the Department employees.
Relations between Kyiv and Moscow deteriorated sharply after the reunification of the Crimea with Russia in March 2014 and the beginning of the conflict in the Donbass in April of the same year. Ukraine accuses Moscow regularly in the conduct of hostilities in the South-East of its territory and calls the aggressor, the Kremlin rejects these accusations.
On April 30, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on the transition from the format of the ATO operations of the combined forces on the territory of Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
