Direct losses of Ukraine from the Crimean bridge construction across the Kerch Strait each year will be around 500 million ($19 million). Indirect losses are estimated at billions of hryvnia. This statement was made by Minister of infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian, UNIAN reports.
According to him, Ukraine suffers direct losses due to forced reduction of tonnage of ships that have to sail under the Crimean bridge to enter the Ukrainian ports Mariupol and Berdyansk. Omeljan added that the very presence of the bridge may lead to the closure of the passage of ships through the Kerch Strait.
“This bridge is not just a bridge, it is a tool of economic and political pressure on Ukraine, a tool to block any second of the Kerch Strait for vessels of not only the Ukrainian flag but to all countries,” the Minister said.
Omeljan stressed that the foreign Ministry of Ukraine sent an appeal to international courts. According to him, Ukrainian companies have deemed the losses from the Crimean bridge and put up the expense of Russia.
Krymsky bridge was opened by the President of Russia Vladimir Putin on may 15. The next day the traffic on the bridge was launched from the Crimea and the Taman Peninsula. Crimean bridge became the longest in Russia — its length was 19 miles. For the implementation of the project was spent 228 billion rubles from the Federal budget.
