Russian ships equipped with cruise missiles “Caliber”, will bear permanent duty in the Mediterranean sea. On Wednesday, may 16, said the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, his words leads to “Interfax”.

“This year, the planned 102 of the trek ships and submarines. In view of persistent threats of terrorist attacks in Syria in the Mediterranean sea our ships with cruise missiles “Caliber” will bear a constant combat watch,” — said the Russian leader at a meeting on military construction in Sochi.

According to him, the high combat readiness and effectiveness of naval forces are the most important factor of economic security of the country and the maintenance of strategic parity. In addition, it is “a significant tool for securing our national interests,” Putin stressed.

The President noted that in recent years the geography of presence of the Russian fleet has expanded considerably. In particular, we are talking about the Mediterranean sea, North Atlantic and Maritime space in the Asia-Pacific region, said the head of state.

Currently in the Mediterranean sea on a permanent basis are Russian squadron, consisting of up to 15 warships and support vessels. So, the frigate “Admiral Essen” and “Admiral Grigorovich”, as well as diesel submarines repeatedly attacked “Calibers” for acting in Syria to terrorist groups, including the “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia).
