Retail prices for buckwheat in Russia renewed a three-year low due to record crops harvested in 2017. The cost of a kilogram of cereals decreased to the end of 2014. About it writes RBC with reference to the data of Rosstat.
In April 2018, the average price per kilogram of buckwheat was 50.7 ruble. According to statistics, it is at least since November 2014, when it stood at 54.6 per ruble. As explained by General Director of “Prozerno” Vladimir Petrichenko, the harvest 2017 (1.5 million tons) is almost two times exceeded the needs of the domestic market of Russia. In light of the fact that in 2016, was also collected a large harvest (1.2 million tons), which provided a large carry-over stocks from the previous season, there was a glut in the market.

Thus, the producers have virtually no opportunity to export the surplus buckwheat harvest in Russia and pressure on prices.
In 2017, was also a record harvest of sugar beet. The result of overproduction, there was a drop in retail prices for sugar in the first quarter of 2018, the drop was more than 20 percent. As RBC notes, the situation on the sugar market is concerned, the Ministry of agriculture.
Earlier it was reported that Russia in case of imposition of excise tax on sugary drinks (the measure provides the Ministry of health in the framework of the strategy of formation of healthy lifestyle) juices and soda more expensive. The cost of drinks could increase by 5-7 percent, but the overall market will decline — according to the forecast, the number of players in the market will decrease by 10-15 percent.
