In Sweden to life in prison sentenced the native of Uzbekistan Rakhmat Akilov, who a year ago drove a truck into a crowd in Stockholm. About it reports Reuters with reference to the decision of the court.
The man was found guilty in committing the terrorist act that caused the death of five people and the attempted murder of another 119 who were at the scene of the attack. The Agency notes that a life sentence in Sweden is usually rendered in any particular period.
It is also reported that during the trial Akilov said that he wanted to punish Sweden for participation in the international fight against the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia). Reuters notes that the country has in recent years participated in international peacekeeping missions in Mali, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo and other States, but not engaged in military activity for more than two centuries.
The truck crashed into a crowd of passers-by on one of the Central streets of Stockholm on 7 April 2017. He stopped only after he entered the storefront. As a result, five people were killed and 15 received injuries of varying severity. The authorities acknowledged the incident a terrorist attack.
The Prime suspect was at the time 39-year-old Rahmat Akilov, filed in Sweden a petition for asylum. He was detained on the same day, he pleaded guilty and was found sane.
