Russian combat training aircraft Yak-130 (“Mitten” according to NATO classification) and based on the Italian M-346 Master expects “bright future”, says The National Interest.
American journal predicts the commercial success of the aircraft in the international market. In particular, currently the Yak-130 is available in Russia, Belarus, Algeria, Bangladesh and Myanmar and, possibly, Syria. Even greater success is the M-346 Master in service with Italy, Israel, Singapore, Poland and Turkmenistan.
The publication notes that the Italian holding company of Leonardo on the basis of the M-346 Master aircraft, is developing the T-100 Integrated Training System, which participates in the tender of the air force (air force), the United States, involving the complete replacement of twin supersonic trainer jet T-38 Talon.
The National Interest notes that the Yak-130 “provides good overall performance” sufficient to prepare pilots for fourth and fifth generations, however, the M-346 Master was easier and got more sophisticated European engines.
The American magazine says that the basic design of the Yak-130 has actually been completed by 1993, but its further development required to attract foreign investors. Partner Russian “Yakovlev Design Bureau” made by the Italian company Alenia Aermacchi (now part of the holding Leonardo). The cooperation ended in 2000, when the foreign party has paid the Russian’s $ 77 million for technical documentation on the aircraft.
“The Yak-130, developed immediately after the collapse of the Soviet Union, is one of the best modern trainers and light combat aircraft available on the international arms market”, — writes the edition.
