In the Russian Academy of Sciences presented the report of the Russian space Agency on the development of technology for destruction of space debris with a laser beam. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
Specialists of Scientific-production Corporation “Systems precision instrument” (NPK “SPP”, a part of the Russian space Agency) proposed to install on the ISS, laser installation, made of 3-metre optical telescope Altay optic-laser center named after Titov. The telescope is now under construction.
It is assumed that debris will be vaporized from contact with the laser beam. As power sources two variants of solid-state generators of development of Saint-Petersburg national research University of information technologies, mechanics and optics.
“To demonstrate the removal capabilities of detecting space debris in low earth orbit to support the proposal of JSC NPK SPP on conducting research and experimental work on optical radar system using solid state laser and transceiver adaptive optics system”, — stated in the offer NPK SPP to the scientists contained in the report.
