More than six million people took part in celebration of day of Russia

More than six million people took part in the festivities across the country, devoted to Day of Russia. About it told the official representative of the Ministry Irina Wolf, reports RIA Novosti.

“Twelfth June at 20.30 GMT in all regions of the country in the celebrations — the parades, concerts and festivals — attended by over six million people. Violations of public order and emergencies during the festive celebrations are not allowed,” she said.

Wolf added that in ensuring public order and safety of citizens participate MVD, Regardie, people’s guards, Cossacks and employees of private security organizations.

Earlier, on 12 June, President Vladimir Putin stressed that Russia Day symbolizes the “free and looking to the future Russia” and added that a modern force of the country according to its current citizens.

Date June 12 became a holiday in 1992 as the Day of adoption of Declaration on state sovereignty of the Russian Federation. In 1998, President Boris Yeltsin proposed to rename the holiday the Day of Russia, but officially the name only changed in 2002.
