The Patriarch of Filarete: Evgeny Kotenko / RIA Novosti
The head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) Filaret sure that Ukraine will be able to “win” in an undeclared war with Russia. With this statement he made in an interview with “Ukrainian truth”.
“What [war] end? Our victory. It is necessary firmly to believe. Not to have any doubts. Because the truth is with us. And where there is truth, there is God. And where God is, there is victory. Always,” — said Filaret.
He also expressed confidence that the armed conflict in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions would not have started, if in Ukraine there was a single local Ukrainian Orthodox Church. “If the Church were United, there would be no war. Because there would be no reason to support Russia in Ukraine. Because the Church would be separated from Moscow. And since there is a reason for this, because there is a war,” — said Filaret.
Moreover, Filaret announced the transfer of the UOC-KP of the two largest monasteries of Ukraine — Kiev-Pechersk Lavra and Pochaev Lavra, which are now in the jurisdiction of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. According to him, this will happen after submission of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.
In Ukraine there are three religious organizations that identify themselves as Orthodox Christians. Two of them — the Kyivan Patriarchate (introduced in 1992) and the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (organized Diaspora in North America and Western Europe) is not recognized by the Orthodox churches of other countries. Considered only the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
