Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol Ekaterina Altabaeva commented on the words of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, who expressed hope that the Ukrainian Navy will return to Sevastopol. About it reports TV channel RT.
In her opinion, the words of the Ukrainian leader cause regret and say that “the head of state is not able to assess the situation and opportunities that exist”.
“Even when Sevastopol was part of Ukraine, he was a Russian city. In our holidays we own and raised the Russian flag. In this sense, we were then a particular territory, but now more than ever,” added Altabaeva.
Earlier on Sunday, July 1, Poroshenko has congratulated Ukrainian sailors with the Navy. “I believe the state flag of Ukraine on our ships will be raised again in the bays of Sevastopol”, — declared the President and thanked sailors for the loyalty to military duty.
After the change of power in Ukraine in 2014, the Crimea and Sevastopol on the results of the referendum became part of Russia. Official Kyiv legitimacy of the referendum is not recognized. Currently, the main part of the Ukrainian fleet based in Odessa.
