Enterprises of rocket-space industry of Russia in 2020 will feel the negative effects caused by the refusal of the US buying rocket engines RD-180 and RD-181, stated in the explanatory note to the annual report for 2017, the largest Russian manufacturer of rocket engines NPO “Energomash”.
The document notes that on 12 December 2017 by the U.S. Congress adopted the law on the powers in the sphere of national defense in the 2018 financial year, which introduces important changes to the procedure of public procurement of the Ministry of defense of the United States.
“In 1603 the section of the act specifically States that the countries under consideration the ban include Russia. Restrictions will not apply to the runs carried out until 31 December 2022. However, due to the timing of the production of rockets, the negative consequences of the Russian enterprises will begin testing in 2020”, — stated in the note.
In 2018, NGOs, the document says, will perform the contractual obligations in the amount of 20.6 billion rubles. More than 4 billion rubles will be implemented the investment program and will continue the implementation of programs to reduce costs and improve efficiency. In 2018, the company plans to supply customers with power units of three types — 11 RD-180 engines, two RD-191 and six engines RD-181. Provides for the holding of the 28 tests.
The document notes that “Energomash “is the “exporter of high-tech and high-tech products with a significant portion of revenue denominated in US dollars and the main part of expenses nominated in rubles.”
In January 2018, the General Director of “Energomash” Igor Arbuzov acknowledged the strong financial dependence on the us orders.
Liquid rocket engine RD-180 and RD-181 are designed and produced for American customers in the Russian “Energomash”. The first power unit is mounted to the Atlas 5 rocket, the second — on the Antares.
