The President of the football Federation of Ukraine (FFU) Andriy Pavelko made a statement regarding the situation around the Croatia defender domagoj Vida, who shouted “Glory to Ukraine!” after the victory over Russia in the 1/4 finals of the world Cup. “Over the past few years the circulation of “Glory to Ukraine!” became for our people a symbol of resilience and patriotism! And quite naturally, that the man to whom our country has given a lot to me, with great respect to it, to its citizens”, — said Pavelko.
According to Pavelko, has the right to publicly show support for Ukraine (athlete played in Kiev “Dynamo” — approx. “Of the tape.ru”). Also, the official noted that the Ukrainian Federation sent letters to FIFA and UEFA with the requirement to protect the player.
Earlier on 8 July it became known that FIFA considered the case of the Croatian defender. His remarks were considered a manifestation of unsportsmanlike conduct. The player was given a warning.
After the victory of Croatia over Russia kind of has a video in which kind of shouted “Glory to Ukraine!”. Later a Croatian player called the incident a joke. Team Russia lost to Croatia in a penalty shootout with the score 3:4.
The world championship will last until July 15. The final of the world Cup will be held at the stadium “Luzhniki”.
