The peoples of Poland and Ukraine unacceptable, if Kiev recognizes the truth about the Volyn massacre. The Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki wrote on Twitter.
“There are some crimes for which there are no words, even after 75 years. The memory of the victims of Volhynia do not erase the responsibility for the crimes to be revised. Reconciliation between peoples of Poland and Ukraine can be based only on the recognition of the full truth about these terrible times,” he explained.
On 8 July the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko invited Poland to establish friendly relations. He said this during the ceremony of memory of victims of the Polish-Ukrainian conflict of 1943-1944 (Volyn massacre) in the village of Brod Hound. “Ukraine and Poland should be user-friendly to not have won a third party who is just waiting for this”, — he said. The Ukrainian leader also called for bring the theme of the Volyn massacre of political discourse in the two countries. “Politicians should not speculate on the story. History belongs to historians and politics to politicians”, — said Poroshenko.
The relations of Poland and Ukraine escalated in February this year after the Polish Senate adopted the law on the Institute of national memory, criminalizing the denial of the participation of Ukrainian nationalists and members of Ukrainian organizations who collaborated with the Third Reich, crimes against poles in the period from 1925 to 1950, including the Volyn massacre.
The law caused dissatisfaction in the United States, and in Israel he was considered a restriction of the freedom of debates about the Nazi crimes against the Jews.
