Luis Enrique became head coach of the Spanish national team. This was reported in the Twitter account of the national team.

48-year-old Enrique was succeeded by Fernando Hierro, who led the “red fury” at the world Championships in Russia. The Spaniards failed to reach the quarter-finals of the world Cup. In the match of 1/8 they lost against Russia in a penalty shootout with the score 3:4 (regular and extra time ended in a draw — 1:1).

On 13 June it became known that Spain changed the coach the day before the start of the tournament. Hierro was replaced as head coach of the Spanish national team Hulen Lopetegi, who earlier on June 13 was dismissed due to talks with real Madrid.

Enrique has led Barcelona from 2014 to 2017. Under his leadership, the Catalans three times won the Spanish Cup and were twice Champions of the national championship, won the Champions League and the UEFA super Cup.
