United States has assured Ukraine that the us leader Donald trump will not betray the interests of Kiev during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. On Monday, July 9, Reuters reported a source in the diplomatic circles of Ukraine.
“We received clear assurances from the American side that Ukraine’s interests are taken into account and protected,” — said the Agency interlocutor.
According to the source, for politicians in Kiev, it is important that behind them avoid unpleasant surprises, “We received assurances of the American side that this will not happen,” said an unnamed Ukrainian diplomat.
As noted, Kiev is counting on the diplomatic and financial support from the United States in the confrontation with Moscow. In particular, Ukraine hopes that trump will push Putin to reduce Moscow’s support for the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk national republics and mitigate Russia’s position on the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbass
In June, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy paruby said that the United States after the meeting, trump and Putin will not change its position regarding the situation in Ukraine and will continue to increase pressure on Russia. “There is unanimous support of Ukraine in Congress, you have a strong position and the White house. (…) Can be sent a very serious signal of strength for Putin to withdrew its troops from Ukraine and from Moldova and Georgia,” he said.
The leaders of Russia and USA will meet in the Finnish capital Helsinki on July 16. It was reported that they intend to discuss the prospects of further development of relations between Moscow and Washington, as well as topical issues on the international agenda. Trump is going to talk with Putin about the conflict in Syria and Ukraine, the alleged Moscow’s intervention in the American elections and other.
This will be the first full meeting of the two presidents without reference to the summits. Year ago heads of state met for the first time in Hamburg on the sidelines of the G20, and then had a short conversation in Vietnam at the APEC summit.
