Meeting of the President of the United States Donald trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin will be another proof that Ukraine is at the forefront of European and world politics. About this in his article for the newspaper Financial Times wrote the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. Version of the article in Ukrainian language publishes the “Observer”.

Poroshenko said that the meeting between Putin and trump will take place on July 16 — on this day in 1990 the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR adopted the Declaration on state sovereignty of Ukraine. He also added that the challenges faced by Ukraine are enormous, but the time to ease pressure on Russia has not come yet. “It would be an admission of weakness. Instead, we should be clear that the values and principles of the free world will not be compromised. I will continue to defend this case and the interests of Ukraine, insisting on the need to return Russian-occupied territory,” — said the Ukrainian President.

“The Kremlin is most afraid of our unity and determination. Full integration of Ukraine into European and TRANS-Atlantic system is the biggest threat to Russian aggression. My goal is to realize the European aspirations of Ukraine into deeper alliances with the European Union”, — wrote Poroshenko.

“Based on our consistent approach not to do anything about Ukraine, without Ukraine, I wish Mr. Trump well in his attempts to restore Mr. Putin to the right path. Knowing the Russian President, I’m sure he longs for our destruction. But it is not our option, and this will never happen”, assured the President of Ukraine.

The leaders of Russia and USA will meet in the Finnish capital Helsinki on July 16. It was reported that they intend to discuss the prospects of further development of relations between Moscow and Washington, as well as topical issues on the international agenda. Trump is going to talk with Putin about the conflict in Syria and Ukraine, the alleged Moscow’s intervention in the American elections.

This will be the first full meeting of the two presidents without reference to the summits. Year ago heads of state met for the first time in Hamburg on the sidelines of the G20, and then had a short conversation in Vietnam at the APEC summit.
