The Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Giornale said on the impossibility of a direct confrontation with Ukraine.
Shoigu said that Russia and Ukraine experienced many hardships, including the Second world war (SIC — approx. “Of the tape.ru”). The Minister said that the relatives of his mother lived in Ukraine, and he himself was baptized in the Church in the Ukrainian example.
“I am convinced that our common historical memory will never be place for mutual confrontation and hostility,” said the Minister.
According to the head of the military Department, the conflict in Ukraine can be resolved only after the unconditional implementation of the Minsk agreements by Kiev, but he has evaded it under various pretexts, and makes various unfounded accusations against Russia.
Relations between Kyiv and Moscow deteriorated sharply after the reunification of the Crimea with Russia in March 2014 and the beginning of the conflict in the Donbass in April of the same year. Ukraine has repeatedly accused Russia of involvement in the fighting in the region. Moscow has stressed the lack of evidence and emphasizes that it is not involved in Ukraine’s internal conflict.
