Debt of Russians for housing and communal services in the first quarter of 2018, amounting to 1.4 trillion rubles. This is reported by “Izvestia”, citing data from Rosstat.
So, the total debt of citizens increased by 5.3 percent compared to the same period last year, and the average size of the debt is now at 46 thousand rubles.
It is noted that among the debtors are not the only people experiencing financial difficulties, but the owners of apartments in new buildings, legal persons and quite wealthy citizens, postponing payments on then.
Experts expect that the situation in the sphere of payment for housing may deteriorate due to the increase in VAT rates, as the loss of suppliers may cause increase in debt. The solution in this case is likely to be the increase of tariffs for utilities.
On 3 July the state Duma adopted in first reading a government bill to raise VAT. According to him, the tax rate will be increased from 18 to 20 per cent on 1 January 2019. The Finance Ministry estimates that this measure will bring the Federal budget an additional 633,5 billion in the first year.
