Georgia will join the NATO, said the Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg. This is stated in a press release on the website of the unit.
“You are one of our key partners and a friend you can trust, he said. — Georgia will become a member of NATO, the leaders of member States reaffirmed it.”
According to the Secretary General, the Alliance is impressed with the progress that Georgia has made on reforms, and encourages the country to continue in the same spirit. He also noted the contribution the country makes to the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, security in the black sea region and support for the territorial integrity inside internationally recognized borders, noting the regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
In may, Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili said that the country will join NATO by 2021. Prior to this, the country’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili said the country had fulfilled all the items on his “homework”, including carried out the necessary reforms and have fulfilled a variety of requirements for NATO accession.
The Russian foreign Ministry believe that the further deepening of cooperation between Georgia and NATO is a threat to the security of the Caucasus.
11 July NATO invited Macedonia. The country will become the 30th member of the bloc after will hold a referendum on changing the country’s name.
The NATO summit takes place in Brussels on 11-12 July.
