The Turkey’s plans regarding the acquisition of anti-aircraft missile systems s-400 from Russia pose risks to NATO. This was stated by commander of US air forces in Europe and Africa General Todd Walters, reports Reuters.

According to him, the purchase by Ankara of the weapons used by “known enemies” of NATO, will allow to put the C-400 side to examine the work and specifications of the American F-35 fighter.

On July 11 Minister of foreign Affairs of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Turkey receives from Russia is antiaircraft-rocket complexes With-400 to the end of 2019. According to him, the transaction will take place, despite the fact that the US and other NATO members opposed the purchase by Ankara of the Russian air defense system, and is “not subject to further discussion.”

In April, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reiterated the resolve of his country to buy Russian s-400, despite the introduction of new US sanctions against Russia.

A month earlier, çavuşoğlu announced that Ankara will use the s-400 only for their own protection. He also reported that SAM needs Turkey urgently because of the lack of the country’s air defense system.

In September 2017 it became known that Moscow and Ankara signed an agreement to supply Turkey systems s-400. The contract provides for the sale of Ankara’s four divisions, equipped with these systems. The cost of the agreement is $ 2.5 billion, more than half of the amount will cover the Russian loan.
