The US has threatened Russia competition in the gas market

The US President Donald trump said at a joint press conference with Russian leader Vladimir Putin that Washington will compete with the energy project “Northern stream-2” for the European gas market. About it reports Reuters.

“The United States will be and are already the largest government on oil and gas. We sell LNG [liquefied natural gas] and have to compete with the pipeline,” stated the U.S. leader. He also expressed confidence that the US will do so successfully, although he admitted that Russia has certain advantages.

Putin in turn said that the heads of state spoke on this subject and that States could work constructively in the international market. He also said that maintaining the gas transit through the territory of Ukraine.

Previously, trump said that Europe’s dependence on Russian gas could undermine international stability. According to him, “Nord stream-2” — “a terrible mistake”, making it “a prisoner of Russia.”

“Nord stream-2” gas pipeline project between Russia and Germany, which will run under the Baltic sea. The total capacity of the project is estimated at 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year. It will give Russia the opportunity to increase gas supplies to Europe by reducing the transit via Ukraine.
