Russia will react extremely negatively if Ukraine or Georgia join NATO. In an interview with Fox News said the President of Russia Vladimir Putin.

According to the Russian leader, the Alliance can work with these countries in a bilateral format, without taking them into their ranks.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, commenting on the visit to Brussels and participation in the NATO summit, declared that nobody can prevent the country’s course towards membership in the Alliance. “Who will speak to us the language of blackmail, he would be in isolation,” he said. In June 2017 Kyiv has called NATO membership a foreign policy priority, however, in March 2018, the special envoy of the US state Department for Affairs of Ukraine stated that the country is not ready to join the Alliance.

July 12, at the NATO summit the NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, impressed by the reforms carried out by Tbilisi. “NATO’s relations with Georgia are unique. You are one of the most important partners of the Alliance. And reliable friend. We fully support Euro-Atlantic aspirations of Georgia. Georgia will become a NATO member. The leaders of member States reaffirmed it,” he said.
