The placement of missile defense Aegis Ashore in Japan will not help solve the problem of a peace Treaty with Russia. This was stated by Russian Ambassador Mikhail Galuzin in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“We believe it is necessary to cultivate our relationship in a positive atmosphere and, of course, such steps as the deployment of elements of us global missile defense in Japan, creating such an atmosphere is not conducive”, — he explained.
Galuzin also noted that such a decision “is the de facto deployment in the Asia-Pacific segment of the global missile defense” that destabilizie the situation in the sphere of global security.
The decision on placement in Japan, the us Aegis Ashore — land-based version of the system Aegis (“aegis”) was adopted in December 2017. Two of the complex planned to be deployed in the prefectures of Akita and Yamaguchi until 2023. Thus, they have to cover the whole country.
The peace Treaty between Russia and Japan have not signed in for over 70 years. The conclusion of the Tokyo refers to the return of the Islands of Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and Habomai. Moscow believes that the Southern Kuril Islands became part of the Soviet Union at the end of the Second world war and sovereignty over them is unquestionable.
