The President of Russia Vladimir Putin thanked the Deputy Prime Minister, Vitaly Mutko, who earlier was in charge of sports for the preparation of the world Cup. It is reported RIA Novosti on Wednesday, July 18.
“Vitaly, you want words of gratitude to say. You are not directly involved in this work but it is well known that you were in the beginning of this path, has done much to prepare for this championship,” — said Putin at meeting with government members.
The head of state stressed that “the holiday really happened.” He thanked all who
participated in the organization of sporting events.
On 2 July Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev expressed the view that the victory of Russians in the match against Spain was made possible not only thanks to the tactics of the coaching staff and the players, but also the conduct of activities, including Mutko.
In December 2017 Mutko resigned as head of the RFU and Chairman of the organizing Committee of the 2018 world Cup football amid doping scandal.
The world Cup was won by France, beating Croatia in the final match.
