Range hypersonic missiles “Dagger” is about three times higher than its land prototype missiles of operational-tactical complex “Iskander”. On Wednesday, July 18, RIA Novosti said a source in the military sphere.
According to him, “Dagger”, mounted on MiG-31K, can hit a target at a distance of about 1.5 thousand kilometers. So this figure is in the case of a rocket launch from Tu-22M3, said the Agency interlocutor.
Member of the expert Council of the Military-industrial Commission of Russia Viktor murakhovski attributed this advantage not to any technical modifications, and the laws of physics.
“Energy of a ballistic missile launched from the ground, used to overcome earth’s gravity, while the air rocket does not need to overcome it and to spend energy to disperse horizontally — it does not need to accelerate as the aircraft itself during start-up is flying at supersonic speed”, — he explained.
The reason for the development of the “Dagger” Murakhovsky called the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate-range and shorter-range nuclear forces (INF), which does not allow to create a terrestrial-based weapons with such range. He was signed in 1988 by Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan.
High-precision aircraft missile complex “Dagger” was first introduced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in March 2018. According to reports, this modernized version of the quasi-ballistic single-stage-managed 9M723 solid rocket complex “Iskander”, which acts as a supersonic all-weather fighter-interceptor long-range MiG-31.
