Russian President Vladimir Putin said that there are still serious risks of aggravation of the situation in the South-East of Ukraine. He said this at a meeting with ambassadors and permanent representatives of the Russian Federation on Thursday, July 19, reports TASS.
According to him, the reasons are the same — failure to comply with the Ukrainian authorities of their commitments, ignoring the Minsk agreements.
“Over and over again demonstrates blatant disregard for agreements, a reluctance to engage in dialogue with their citizens. All scenarios are calculated in a power way” — said the Russian leader.
He stressed that today Minsk package of measures remains a viable basis for political settlement of the situation in the Donbass.
In the Minsk agreements, which were signed by leaders of Russia, France, Germany and Ukraine in February 2015, stipulates a ceasefire, the withdrawal of heavy weapons, the holding of elections in the Donbass, and the legislative recognition of the special status of the region.
The armed confrontation in Eastern Ukraine began in April 2014 after the coup. Clashes of varying intensity continued to date. Kiev accuses Moscow of involvement in the fighting. The Russian side denies the charges and emphasizes their participation in Ukraine’s internal conflict. Moscow also notes that the Ukrainian leadership has ignored the provisions of the Minsk agreements.
