Fund Walk Free Foundation has released a new edition of the global slavery index. The data published on the website of the organization.
The organization estimates that worldwide some 40 million people are modern forms of slavery. 24,9 million of them subject to forced labor, 15.4 million more were forced into marriage. About 71 percent of all victims are women and girls.
Slavery is most prevalent in Africa, Asia and the Pacific. In the first place by the number of slaves among the countries are North Korea.
In Russia, the Fund counted 794 thousand people living in slavery, placing the country in 64th place in the list. Russia also entered the top 10 at the absolute number of slaves, along with such States as India, China, Pakistan, North Korea, Nigeria, Iran, Indonesia, Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Philippines. These ten countries, according to the organization, are responsible for 60 percent of all slaves in the world.
In June, Russia was among the countries that do not succeed in the fight against exploitation of people.
