Mexican defender Rafael Marquez said on Twitter about retirement.
39-year-old thanked fans for their support over 21 years of professional career, and posted a collage with photos in t-shirts of all the clubs for which he played. Now Marquez will move to an administrative job at Mexican club Atlas, where at the age of 17 began his career as a footballer.
During his career, the defender played for Atlas, Monaco, Barcelona, “new York RB”, “Leon” and “Verona”. In total, Marquez has won 20 trophies, 12 of which were won as part of the Catalan team.
The world Cup in Russia was for the Mexican fifth in his career. However, the defender became the first player in history who was captain of the national team to five Championships of the world.
