The German football Association (DFB) rejected the accusations of midfielder Mesut Ozil in the manifestation of racism on the part of the head of the organization of Reinhard and Alster lakes. The appeal published on the website of the DFB.
“We reject the allegations of links with racism. DFB was involved in the integration of immigrants for many years”, — stated in the message.
Earlier, on 23 July, Ozil announced his retirement from the German national team. He published the text in three parts, in which he wrote: “In the eyes and Alster lakes and its supporters I am German when we win. However, when we lose, I immigrant”. The player asked the question: is it due to the fact that he is Turkish in origin? He said that because of the attitude of the German football Union and others, he doesn’t want to wear the shirt of the German national team.
In may, Ozil together with the German football player of Turkish origin Elkaim Gundogan met with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Their act was criticized, questioning the commitment of the athletes to democratic values.
Ozil played for the German national team since 2009, becoming in its structure the champion of the world in 2014. The midfielder 92 matches for the national team in which he scored 23 goals.
