Ukraine urged the International Maritime organization (IMO) not to recognize valid documents issued to seamen in the territory of the Crimea and Sevastopol. This is stated in the message of the Ukrainian Embassy in the UK.
“Any documents (both qualification and the seafarers’ identity document), issued after July 15, 2014 the so-called “Captains of seaports” on the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea and Sevastopol are invalid, do not generate any legal consequences and therefore should be considered fake,” says the publication.
The statement of the Embassy was dedicated to the performance of the Ukrainian representative at the next meeting of IMO, where Ukraine and demanded to cancel documents issued to seafarers in Crimea. According to the Ukrainian diplomatic mission, supported Kiev’s proposal expressed by the delegation of the United States and Europe.
The Ukrainian government has previously expressed its readiness to impose sanctions against Russian ports in the sea of Azov, as well as the arrest of Russian ships. The situation in the Azov sea escalated after Russian authorities completed and the Crimean bridge, after which Kiev announced its intention to strengthen its presence in the region.
