The Russian threat leads to the need of construction in Eastern Europe, the new roads, which would ensure the expeditious transportation of military equipment, according to Popular Mechanics (PM).
The American edition notes that a significant portion of the Eastern roads are not capable of withstanding a load of tanks and other heavy military equipment. Not designed for this and the many low bridges and narrow tunnels. Of particular concern to the military is the state of road infrastructure in the Baltic States.
In the report of the Center for European policy analysis (USA), referenced by PM, there is a need for “additional measures to ensure effective containment of the” Russian threat.
One of the most active supporters of the mobility of NATO in Eastern Europe is former commander of the US army in Europe, Lieutenant General Ben Hodges, who in April had complained of problems encountered when attempting to throw an American tank from Poland to Romania. “It was very, very difficult,” — said the General.
