Cyclist Olga Zabelin, who previously played for the Russian national team, has applied for a change of sport nationality in the international Cycling Union. She wants to be part of the team of Uzbekistan. About this Zabelin told TASS.
“Now I’m in the process of transition. But the reasons why I decided to take this step, I wouldn’t want to voice it,” — said the athlete.
The Director General of the Cycling Federation of Russia (fbr) Yuri Curly, commenting on the decision Zabelin, said that the cyclist faces a two-year quarantine, for which she will be forced to miss the Olympic games in 2020. According to him, the sportswoman has not yet appealed to the Federation with an official request.
Zabelin won two bronze medals at the 2012 Olympics in Cycling on the highway. Four years later she won the silver and became the only Russian athlete who won medals in this kind of program in the last two Games.
