In the secession from Georgia of Abkhazia and South Ossetia blame Russia. With such statement on Tuesday, August 7, by the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili, reports “Interfax”.

“We should not be afraid to call a spade a spade. What is doing Russia against a sovereign state is a war between Russia and Georgia is an aggression, an occupation and is violation of all international norms,” — said the head of state at a meeting with foreign Ministers of Poland, Lithuania and Latvia Jacek Czaputowicz, Linas Linkevičius and Edgars Rinkēvičs, respectively, and Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavel Rozenko.

Margvelashvili expressed confidence that the “occupation” of Georgia by Russia began in August 2008, and in 1991-1992, when “Russia with the help of the hybrid war is separated from the Central government of Georgia, two of the region” (in the early 1990s Abkhazia and South Ossetia declared their desire to secede from Georgia, which resulted in armed conflicts, waged on their territory, after which the Republic became de facto independent from Tbilisi).

6 Aug the former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, led the country during the five-day war with Russia in August 2008, said that Moscow started military action. “Only idiots and complete morons can say that Georgia started [the war]. Full of idiots and morons. In fact, it is immoral because there is a huge amount of material,” said he.

Saakashvili also said that “the purpose of the Russian invasion was an attack not just on Georgia as a country, and the Georgian statehood”. According to him, Russia’s goal in August 2008 was “the capture of Tbilisi, a change of government and the abolition of Georgia as a state.”
