A new package of anti-Russian sanctions consists of two parts. About it reports NBC News, citing a source in the US administration.
The first block, which begins on August 22, assumes a complete ban on exports to Russia of electronic devices and components of dual use. Before the sanctions, permission to export was considered in each case. The TV channel notes that this package may not have a significant impact, as it will largely duplicate the existing restrictive measures.
The second set of sanctions is suspended for three months. It will not be entered, if “Moscow will give reliable assurances that in the future would not use chemical or biological weapons and agree to inspections “on the spot” by the UN”. Failure to provide the safeguards, Washington may reduce the level of diplomatic relations, to revoke the permission for Aeroflot to make flights to the USA and to almost completely stop trade between the countries.
Earlier, on 8 August, the state Department spokesperson Heather Nauert reported the introduction of new sanctions against Russia, accusing Moscow of “using biological or chemical weapons in violation of international law or against its own citizens”.
On March 26, the United States declared persona non grata 60 Russian diplomats and decided to close the Consulate General in Seattle in connection with the poisoning of the former GRU Colonel Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia. Also about the expulsion of employees of diplomatic missions announced Australia, Ukraine, Canada and more than a dozen EU countries.
Former spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia was found unconscious on March 4, 2018 in the British city of Salisbury. The UK authorities believe that the family was poisoned nervously-paralytic substance of the Novice class, which was developed by the Soviet scientists for military purposes. Moscow denies the accusations.
