Subsidiary of the state company “Gazprom” 2 Nord Stream AG, responsible for the implementation of the project of the pipeline “Nord stream-2”, proposed to the Danish authorities, the alternative route of the pipeline in the territorial waters of the Kingdom. This is stated in the message of the company.
Denmark is the only country that has not endorsed the Russian project. The document with the alternative route sent to the Danish energy Agency, which has already begun to study a new document. “The Danish energy Agency received an additional request from the company Nord Stream 2 to the resolution on the construction of transit pipelines in Danish waters on alternate route North of Bornholm”, — is spoken in the message of the authorities of the Kingdom.
The new route will pass only through the exclusive economic zone by the territorial waters of Denmark, as it was in the original draft. The Danish part of the pipeline will be 36 kilometres long and will total 175 kilometers. In the company’s statement also says that the new application is not a replacement for the old option, served alternatively.
In early August, it was reported that 2 Nord Stream AG has developed a completely new route, for which the resolution of Denmark will not be needed. The implementation of option without Denmark would not even increase the cost of the project, the costs of which are estimated at 9.5 billion euros.
The Prime Minister of Denmark Lars løkke Rasmussen in June threatened to ban the construction of “Nord stream-2”. According to him, the project may cause damage to the Danish state, and to increase Europe’s dependence on Russian gas and to reduce the role of Ukraine in the fuel supply.
