Terrorists detained in the Syrian province of Idlib thousands of people advocating the conclusion of a truce with the authorities. This was stated by Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia on Tuesday, August 28, reports TASS.

“The terrorists have captured more than 2 million “unreliable” people believed to be supporters of an agreement with the Syrian authorities”, — he said at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Syria. He added that Moscow calls on the leaders of insurgents in Idlib to give up, and maintaining the status quo is unacceptable, RIA Novosti reported.

Nebenzia also said that he would discuss with UN Secretary General possible provocations with chemical weapons on Syrian territory.

Prior to this the Russian defense Ministry said that U.S. building up arms and preparing a strike on Syria. The Pentagon responded to the accusations of the Russian defense Ministry in the preparation of air strikes on Syria. According to his representative, stating that the US is massing forces for a missile strike, not true.

Armed conflict in Syria began in 2011. It involves government forces, acting on the side of President Bashar al-Assad, moderate opposition and various Islamist groups. In recent months there are increasing reports about the truce and the surrender of weapons by militants. Currently, Idlib province — the only region of the country, which is still not controlled by the government.
