Washington has no plans to completely stop the joint military exercises with South Korea. This was stated by the Minister of defence of the USA James Mattis on Tuesday, August 28, reports Reuters.
According to him, due to talks with North Korea a large part of the maneuvers was temporarily discontinued, but others continue. “We took a step and halted some of the largest exercises as a gesture of goodwill arising from the summit in Singapore,” he said at a briefing.
At the same time now the US has no plans to stop any more maneuvers, said the Minister. Mattis added that while no decisions regarding next year is not accepted.
In June, after the summit, the US and North Korea it was reported that the Americans intend to suspend large-scale military exercises with South Korea. Then it was on regular joint exercises, such as the spring field exercises Foal Eagle and Ulchi Freedom Guardian summer, which worked out ways of reflecting military aggression of the DPRK, as well as Key Resolve, which aims to test the possibility of an emergency increase of U.S. troops in the Korean Peninsula.
