Electric vehicles will not receive the distribution in Russia in the foreseeable future due to low demand. This was stated by the head of the Russian branch of Renault Andrey Pankov, quoted by RBC.
“There is no problem to quickly create the necessary infrastructure for the electric vehicle, but there’s no point in its development when there is no demand for electric cars”, — said Pankow.
Private clients are not interested in purchasing electric cars because of high prices. They, in turn, due to the fact that all of sold in Russia of cars are imported in assembled form, and are not manufactured locally. This greatly increases the cost, said the head of the Russian branch of Renault.
In 2017, over the term of the preferential import duties on electric vehicles in the framework of the EAEU. After that, the Ministry of industry and trade opposed the re-introduction of benefits, as this will affect the production of electric vehicles in Russia.
Thus, according to Pankov, the situation may change due to the development of car sharing. The first such service for electric cars appeared in Moscow in October 2017. Also, a joint project of electrocartridge invested in the Russian direct investment Fund (RDIF) and the Italian energy company Enel, and in February of 2018, it was announced about the launch of such a service for electric vehicles in Sochi with the participation of Renault.
