The United States will not pay another $ 300 million to Pakistan to combat terrorism, reports ABC News. According to the Pentagon, the country is not enough to effectively use financial assistance.
The representative office number Faulkner said that Islamabad will not receive the specified amount due to “a lack of decisive action in support of South Asia strategy” of the United States.
At the same time Pakistani foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the money was not “aid or support”, but only covered the cost requested by the Pentagon, military operations, writes Al Jazeera.
He added that at the moment relationships of the two countries “almost there”, but hope for the restoration of cooperation is still there. This can happen during the visit of Secretary of state Mike Pompeo and chief military Advisor to the U.S. leader Joseph Dunford on 6 September. They will arrive in Islamabad for talks with the newly elected government.
As noted by “Kommersant”, the concern in Washington is the fact that Islamabad took a loan from China, as the countries jointly implement the strategy of “China-Pakistan economic corridor”. “I see no reasons why the American taxpayers’ money should go to cover the debt to China,” said U.S. Secretary of state Mike Pompeo.
Over the past 15 years, the U.S. has spent more than $ 33 billion in assistance to Pakistan, but Washington “received the answer only lies and betrayal,” wrote the President of the United States Donald trump in January. Then he accused Islamabad of providing shelter to the Afghan militants. The authorities deny the charges.
